Lifeguard

The State College YMCA is currently accepting applications for a full-time Lifeguard to be responsible for upholding safety rules, YMCA policies, accident prevention, and emergency response at our indoor pools. Staff are needed to fill a variety of shifts throughout the week.

Primary Responsibilities

• Remain physically and mentally alert, taking a proactive approach to searching for distressed swimmers and hazards.
• Successfully communicate with youth and adults to enforce pool rules and schedules.
• Remain calm, respond effectively, and give clear directions in an emergency situation.
• Maintain safety of pool environment by removing hazards that could lead to injury in or around the pool deck and halting any dangerous behavior displayed by patrons.
• Responsible for helping clean the pool facility, including vacuuming the pool and other duties as assigned.
• Remain physically capable of completing the prerequisite swim test as specified by the American Red Cross to ensure ability to respond in an emergency situation.

Qualifications

• At a minimum, some high school level education is required.
• Current lifeguard certification or ability to obtain a certification.
