Head Lifeguard

Position Summary

The State College YMCA is hiring a full-time Head Lifeguard responsible for maintaining a safe aquatic environment, preventing accidents, responding to emergencies, and supervising lifeguard staff. This position also includes teaching swim lessons and assisting with daily pool operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Lifeguard Supervisor Duties:

• Supervise lifeguard staff and assist with opening and closing procedures.
• Perform assigned cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Test pool water daily and maintain proper chemical levels.
• Ensure compliance with PA State Bather’s Code and Health Codes.
• Monitor swimmers and enforce safety rules.
• Respond to emergencies and perform rescues and first aid as needed.
• Complete incident reports and communicate issues to the Aquatics Director.

Swim Instructor Duties:

• Create a positive, engaging environment for swimmers.
• Develop and follow structured lesson plans.
• Take attendance and communicate progress with parents.
• Enforce all facility rules and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current lifeguard certification (or ability to obtain certification).
• Prior experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor preferred.

Pay & Benefits

• $14.00/hour base rate
• $22.00/hour for group swim lessons
