Job description:

The YMCA of Centre County is seeking enthusiastic and safety-focused Rock Climbing Instructors/Staff to support our climbing programs and climbing wall operations. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with people of all ages, have a passion for climbing, and are committed to creating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for participants.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise climbing wall activities and ensure adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Teach climbing techniques, equipment use, belaying skills, and safety practices to participants of varying ages and experience levels.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the climbing area.
  • Monitor participants and provide encouragement, instruction, and support throughout climbing sessions.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and report incidents to supervisors.
  • Create a positive and inclusive environment that promotes skill development, confidence, and enjoyment.
  • Assist with special events, group programs, and climbing-related activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous climbing experience required; climbing instruction or belay certification preferred.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, teens, adults, and families.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
  • Weekend availability is required.

Salary & Benefits

  • $15.00–$20.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
